Unfortunately, it looks as though some people are using the pandemic to skirt certain housing laws … making it easier to take advantage of “deals” they otherwise may never get.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered that no one in the state can be evicted from their homes for not paying rent during the pandemic. It was meant to help protect renters in the face of such difficult financial times.
Because of this, some renters are refusing to pay what they owe, even if they can afford to do so.
Paula Resado rented out her beautiful three-bedroom home in Sag Harbor to a wealthy man who she claims has made her life a living nightmare in the middle of the pandemic.
Summer homes in the Hamptons, New York, can cost upwards of $100,000 in monthly rent.
Her renter’s lease ended at the end of April 2020, but May came and went and she said he refused to leave or pay rent and utilities.
Not only did Paula claim that he stopped paying rent and owed her more than $15,000, but she also claimed that he and his dogs had completely destroyed her lovely home.
She described and documented the complete mess, both inside and outside the property — ripped-up furniture, tarnished rugs, damaged walls, broken windows … and the list goes on.
