A video circulating on social media shows a heckler interrupting Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s press conference Tuesday afternoon. She hurled expletives at Schumer and called him a “racist” and an “anti-Semite.”
In the video, Schumer is seen addressing a crowd on a street in New York, calling for Donald Trump’s resignation and for the FBI to add Capitol rioters to the no-fly l ist
Mere seconds into the video, Schumer is heckled mid-speech by a protester, who approached Schumer’s podium and began shouting at him.
“You need to get out of office now, you racist,” she shouted at the politician. She called Schumer a “socialist” and even compared him to Adolf Hitler. “Adolf Hitler was a socialist, and that’s exactly who you follow,” she said.
The protester even said she was “glad” to see the attack on the Capitol last Wednesday, even going as far as to say she got “sexually excited” witnessing the event. "Seeing you hide under your desk, I actually got sexually excited over it. That's how much I loathe you," she said.
“As long as there’s outrage and unrest in our hearts, there will be unrest in our streets,” the protester added.
The protester also called out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She accused Pelosi of downplaying the destruction of monuments and threatened that Trump supporters “are going to go to [Schumer’s] and Pelosi’s home."
Schumer awkwardly watched from behind the podium, and, at one point, he asked if the heckler can be “removed.” The protester was eventually interrupted by booing bystanders, and she yelled at them to “shut up” before the video cuts off.
As preparations are underway for the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Jan. 20, this incident is indicative of the heightening tensions throughout the country following the storming of the Capitol last Wednesday and the indefinite suspension of Trump’s Twitter account.
