An Out-of-the-Ordinary Grocer – The New York Times


Daniel Soares, a fourth-generation Balducci, has opened a new pop-up of the produce and food stand he ran last year in Little Italy. This one is in Market Line, on the lower level of the huge Lower East Side market complex, and will be open until the end of the year, perhaps longer. Called Alimentari Flâneur, the name is a mash-up of Italian and French, meaning food to browse, and the stand offers Mr. Soares’s very particular choices of often out-of-the-ordinary products both from local sources and imports. A farm on Long Island supplies romanesco, carrots, fennel and kale. He also has pink lemons, olive oil and taralli biscuits from Apulia, and fresh focaccia, breads and pasta from il Buco Alimentari e Vineria in NoHo. He runs an offshoot, a brick-and-mortar Alimentari Flâneur inside Galiotos, another store, in Little Italy.
