Buybuy Baby Closes Stores to Focus Exclusively on Online Shopping

Buybuy Baby announced on October 18 that it will be closing its remaining 10 physical locations by the end of the year to transition exclusively to online shopping.

“We’re transforming into a digital-first brand, focusing all our energy on providing an exceptional online shopping experience,” reads a statement on the company’s blog.

The company noted this “strategic reset” came after taking customer and partner feedback into account.

“With this shift, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our physical stores by the end of this year,” the company stated. “We understand this may be disappointing news, and we want all our customers to know this wasn’t a choice we took lightly.”

Beginning October 18, buybuy Baby is offering “significant discounts on almost everything in-store.”

“This is a great chance to stock up on favorite items while supplies last and bid farewell to our buybuy Baby stores,” the company added.

Gift cards will be honored in-store until October 31 and then exclusively online. Baby registries will continue to be available online.

“The loyalty and support of our customers over the years have meant the world to us,” the company expressed. “The relationships we’ve built in-store have been truly special, and we’re incredibly grateful for the time shared with us.”

The decision to close buybuy Baby stores has been a challenge over the past year. In April 2023, buybuy Baby’s parent company, Bed Bath & Beyond, filed for bankruptcy protection. Shortly after, in July, all 115 buybuy Baby locations were announced to be closing, as reported by CNBC.

Following the bankruptcy liquidation, all buybuy Baby stores were shuttered, and the company’s intellectual property assets were acquired by Dream on Me Industries for $15.5 million. This acquisition led to the reopening of 10 buybuy Baby locations in Braintree, Massachusetts; Scarsdale, New York; Rockville, Maryland; Christiana, Delaware; West Hartford, Connecticut; Springfield, Virginia; and four locations in New Jersey—Bridgewater, Cherry Hill, Iselin, and Paramus.

Now, all 10 stores are set to close by the end of the year. “We’re committed to making this transition as smooth as possible,” states the buybuy Baby blog post. “While we’re saying goodbye to our physical stores, we’re not saying goodbye to our customers!”
